Our Story

Gordon and Lorna met “on the apps”, in an algorithm-busting miracle, as Gordon’s Surrey-centric search somehow overlapped Lorna’s deep in central London. After a couple of lovely dinner dates, they managed to showcase some spectacularly poor judgement in agreeing the distance might be too much of a challenge, and cooled things off. However, after many months of constant texting, voice notes, and general infatuation - with a little encouragement from Lorna’s Maid of Honour Alice, in the role of cupid - the penny finally dropped that they were indeed meant to be together.

The following year was spent between London and Surrey, each prioritising the other, taking in shows in London, cosy movie nights at Widgery House, and trying to eat at every restaurant in between. Fond memories include Gordon meeting Frank & Julia for the first time (many margaritas were had!), dog walks in Surrey, and Gordon showing Lorna the sights around Guildford, which would later become their home.

November ‘22 saw their first holiday together, with a romantic winter retreat to the Cotswolds and The Swan in Ascott-under-Wychwood. A decadent few days of wining and dining unfortunately finished with Lorna losing at oyster roulette. The less said the better, but we can recommend Lucazade sport, if you find yourself in a similar position.

2023 saw Gordon and Lorna pick up where they left ‘22, spoiling each other rotten for birthdays, and making the most of every ounce of spare time to see each other, meet their friends, and get to know family all the better. It also saw their first holiday abroad, to picturesque Lake Garda, where it turns out everyone has a gluten intolerance, if you just eat enough pasta.

Shortly after returning to the real world, Gordon and Lorna moved into Flat 19 in Guildford. Guildford became home fast, with Lorna making the high street her own (whilst Gordon waited patiently outside any given shop). Life couldn’t have been better, so it wasn’t long before Gordon began plotting a proposal. With a combination of deft observation, rigorous note-taking, and quite a lot of luck, the ring was chosen, re-sized and sneakily hidden in a drawer, in a sock. This was a plan Gordon knew was original, cunning, and impossible to foil. And it wasn’t foiled, if only because Lorna had weeks before, in a moment of weakness, already poked about in that draw for the possibility of a ring box hidden in a sock.

And so the stage was set. But when would it happen? Summer 24’s trip to Greece? Too obvious. The now-traditional winter weekend to the Cotswolds? She’d anticipate it. No, Gordon waited for an innocuous date night, with a bottle of Bolly hidden in plain sight for the flimsiest of reasons (“you passed your work assessment!”). Lorna was ambushed with a white table cloth, Andrea Bocelli on the speakers, and Gordon on bended knee.

She said yes, and burst into tears. Bingo!

We hope to see you soon and can’t wait to celebrate with you!
